16. Create links between your own content
Each time you have the opportunity, you should link to the previous content that you have published. Including internal links regularly can give you benefits such as:
Make it easier for Google robots to crawl your website and access deeper pages and publications.
Pass the link juice to other blog posts and pages that may not attract links on your own.
Help Google understand the context of the content of your page by using related hyperlink text.
Keep visitors on your site for longer by having them visit more pages, which reduces the bounce rate and increases time on the site.
WordPress facilitates the interconnection of your content.
Whenever you are writing a publication, simply highlight a part of the text and click on the hyperlink button. Then, select the gear icon, which will show the link options.
In the pop-up window, you’ll see a list of previous posts you’ve written. Simply select the most relevant item from the list.
17. Optimize the titles of publications and pages
Your title tag is your most important header label. It tells Google what your page is about and is decisive for users to decide to click and go to your page. If you’re not sure what your title tag is, it’s the name of your post or page.
Follow these recommended instructions to optimize your title tag:
Include your target keyword as early as possible in the title.
Create a title tag between 60 and 70 characters.
Create a tempting title that gets people to click.
Changing your title tag to something that is well optimized and clickable is easy enough. Especially if you are using the Yoast SEO plugin.
To change the title tag, open one of your publications and scroll to the bottom. You will see a section called ‘ Snippet Editor ‘.
Here, you can adjust your SEO title and optimize it to position yourself better.
18. Optimize your header tags
Your header tags will give tracking robots an idea of what your content is about. The use of these tags in your content will make it more readable and optimized for search engines.
In general, you should have an H1 tag per publication and use a hierarchy of H2 , H3 , H4 , etc.
Your H1 tag will also be the title of your post, so you’ll definitely want to include your target keyword. For the rest of your header tags, use a variation of your target keyword, if possible. However, do not fill in the header tags with keywords if it does not make sense for your post.
Within the WordPress editor, you can easily add header tags through the drop-down menu.
19. Use shorter URLs
When it comes to your URLs, the shorter, the better. Do your best to shorten your URLs, so they do not show multiple categories or directories. Try to include only your target keyword and get rid of everything else.
A long URL will not affect your ranking, but could make your link look like a spam link and lower the CTR. If you changed your permanent links, this will help you give you more control over your URL structure.
Follow these best practices when creating a SEO friendly URL:
Use a shorter URL whenever possible and remove the fill words
Include your target keyword in your URL
Significantly combine your titles and URL
Make it human-readable
Avoid multiple categories and folders whenever possible
With the above in mind, you can easily edit your URLs from WordPress. In the page creation or publication screen, simply click on edit in the ‘ Permalinks ‘ section just below the title:
20. Optimize meta descriptions
The meta description is the text fragment that is below the title in the search results. It gives search engines an idea of what that page is going to be.
Meta description is not a direct positioning factor, but it will help improve CTR in search engines. A well written and tempting meta description will make the user click on your post, instead of the other search results.
The data is based on the correlation , but if you have a high CTR, Google will consider that your page is more relevant, which could improve your web positioning.
To optimize your meta description to get more clicks, implement these tips:
Include your objective keyword in your description. Google will highlight this keyword in bold, so it will make your page stand out even more.
Think of your meta description as in the text of an advertisement. You are persuading your reader to click on your link and not on others.
